I also first met Doug when reported to the command center in 99. I had many enjoyable watches and conversations with him. It was a blessing to have known him. Whenever I see Oklahoma State Cowboys, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, or mini football helmets, I think of him. I'm terribly sorry. Psalms 119:49-50

I first met Doug when he came to work at the D17 Command Center back in 99. We worked together on a lot of cases and always enjoyed when he talked about his kids (who are two of the cutest kids). He always had pictures of them on his screen. Doug was a good guy loved his family and served his country well. His is missed.

I forgot a funny story I would have liked to have told at the service so I am sharing it now. When we lived in CA Doug was watching the Calgary Flames play hockey (his favorite team) while wearing his complete goalie outfit (helmet, pads, blocker and glove etc). I was trying to call my mom in OK and the prefix there is 918 well the phone dialed 911 by mistake. I didn't realize it and hung up and dialed again. While I was talking with my mom the doorbell rang. Doug answered the door in his full goalie gear and the police were standing there. They asked him if someone here dialed 911. He said no. They asked him if anyone else was home and he said yes my wife. They demanded to speak with me so I came to the door and they asked me if everything was ok and I said yes and explained the number 1 button sticks on the phone and it must have dailed 911. We apologized and they left. I can only imagine what they thought of Doug when they opened the door to see him standing their with his goalie helmet and gear on, LOL.

Doug was undoubtedly the cutest 5 year old we could have chosen to be the ring-bearer in our wedding 39 years ago on May 13, 1970. (He looked much like the picture of him in the cub scout uniform...precious!!) To learn of his sudden passing was such a shock. Our thoughts are with his sweet family who have lost a person who was a big part of their world, a husband, father, son and brother. We pray the Lord will provide the comfort and strength you will need to get through this time, as only He can. May Doug's influence and your special shared memories live on through you. Please know that there are many who lift you in prayer that you do not know, but who love you and have also suffered losses through the years.

My heart breaks with all of you. My greatest memories were when he was my baby or younger cousin...when we were little. He was always so sweet. He came to my house not to long ago when he was home from Alaska for a visit. I was so glad my boys got to meet him.I know God has a hand in this but it so hard to understand. It was so nice to get to know Doug through cub scouts over the past school year. He was really fun to talk to, and was thoroughly enjoying the time that he was getting to spend with his family and going to school. I will miss him. Amy, you and your children are in my thoughts and prayers.

I remembering working for Doug's mom and she never knew what he was going to call for that "particular day". What jam he had gotten himself into. Of course, I have kept up with all Kay's kids thru her and must say how very proud I am of the young kid I knew as Doug to the man he became. He served our country....thank you and Amy for that time of him giving his time. I know he was a great father and husband. Little girls need their daddys. I lost mine at age 19 but Caiti oh the wonderful memories I have of him that have sustained many thru the many years when I just "needed my daddy". Amy and Michael, just remember the memories and trust in God there is a reason for everything. To this day I keep thinking why is my dad not here.
Love to all of doug's family. You are in my heart and in my hurt for you having to go through this.

Since Doug retired in August we were able spend a lot of time as a family. I am so greatful that we were able to go camping, dipnetting, take a trip to Seward and he was able to help so much with Boy Scouts and school activities. The kids learned to ski and we went all during Christmas break and on spring break went to Alyeska. Truly it was a wonderful year.
